The Programs

Six different programs are offered at SVF:
The General Curriculum
One third of the students at SVF attend this program. It is equivalent to community colleges for ages 16-19, providing a second chance for those whose studies have been interrupted. Most major subjects are studied under a period of 1-3 years, depending on the student's individual needs.
The Bible Program
The Bible program is divided into three parts: one year long course, one semester long course and one year of internship in a congregation in the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden. It is also possible to do an internship of three months in India with the Hindustani Covenant Church. The curriculum focuses on studies of the Old and New Testament.
The International College Program
For more than 30 years this program has exchanged students with North Park University (NPU) in Chicago, USA. The fall semester is spent at SVF and the spring at NPU. The aim is to enhance the students' language skills and their understanding of cultural differences.

You can find more information about this program on the NPU website. This link will take you there.

Facts about SVF

Södra Vätterbygdens Folkhögskola (SVF) is a private school in Jönköping, Sweden. It is one of 150 schools for adult education known as "folkhögskola". This is a form of adult education, called "folkbildning", is typical for Scandinavia.

The mission of Schools like SVF is to offer education in numerous subjects, in formal or non-formal studies, based on the patrtcipants' needs.

Participation should be elective and the education free from government influence, even though a major part of the turnover consists of government grants. Like the majority of these schools, SVF is owned by an organisation, in this case the Mission Covenant Church of Sweden.

SVF was founded in 1919 and moved to its present premises on the western heights of Jönköping in 1930. The campus offers a fantastic view over the city and lake Vättern. Modern structures provide room for 280 students, including dormitories, which can house 130 students. Facilities include a fine library, studios for photography, radio and TV, computer labs, a chapel and a sports center.
The school is also a conference site with a great number of participants each year. The campus is next to the City Park offering beautiful walking paths and natural surroundings. In the park there are animals, a café, an open-air and bird museum. A walk downtown takes about 25 minutes and twice an hour there are public buses to the city center.

The Conference Center

The Conference Center at SVF hosts several thousand visitors yearly. The Center
is located in a separate part of the campus with conference halls and a hotel with 25 rooms. The school auditorium is also frequently used, especially when more space is needed. From June to mid August SVF can host as many as 200 guests, and the dormitories are used for additional accommodation.

The conferences and shorter courses are partly arranged by SVF but mostly by the arranging organization. These guests are mainly NGOs or voluntary organizations such as churches, interest groups, or similar organizations from the public sector. SVF also has a long tradition of international cooperation together with international partners, especially with the USA and in recent years with Germany.
